PM directs PIA to increase flights for GB

SKARDU: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has directed PIA authorities to manage two flights daily to Skardu, and three to Gilgit to facilitate the stranded passengers and tourists. The directives were issued by the PM following the request of Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Syed Mehdi Shah during his meeting with the former. According to details, there were about 255 stranded passengers here, out of which, 164 domestic and 32 foreign tourists were earlier sent to Islamabad through PIA and C-130 Army planes, while remaining would be dispatched to Islamabad on Thursday.

Meanwhile, on special directives of Chief Minister all necessary arrangements have been made to provide free stay and food facilities to the tourists.

Furthermore, due to blockade of KKH there is a threat of shortage of Petroleum and daily use items in sensitive areas of Baltistan Region (Skardo and Ghangche districts of Siachan and kargil sectors of the country), and if the situation does not improve, it would have adverse effects on masses of the areas in upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
