Gilgit Baltistan Democratic Alliance (GBDA) while rejecting the federal government’s announced reforms package demanded to hold elections for the first constitutional assembly of Gilgit Baltistan and Ladakh.
Gilgit Baltistan self empowerment package is a deliberate attempt to make fool the people of Gilgit Baltistan as well as the concerned authorities related to the issue, especially the United Nations, said secretary general GBDA Muhammad Wazir Shafi in a statement. He said the so called self empowerment package has nothing to do with the basic rights of the people of Gilgit Baltistan besides it is aimed at collection of taxes by violating the UN resolutions which said “no taxation without representation”.
Mr. Khan claimed that according to the constitutions of Pakistan and UNCIP Resolution and other documents related to the Kashmir issue the Islamabad has no powers to promulgate any Order, Ordinance or make any law or rule for Gilgit Baltistan. But under the same documents the local authority government of Gilgit Baltistan was entitled to make laws and same has authority to have administrative, legislation, and judicial powers of its own.
Resource of the region shall continuously be used by Government of Pakistan in the name of self style federal subject. It was not mentioned in the package that whether this government shall have powers to use its own resources or not which are including water resources, Timber, Gyms and other minerals, KKH custom, tourist resources, trekking fees, fines, registrations heads, etc, he added.
He demanded demitraization of Pakistan forces and civil administration from Gilgit Baltistan and Indian forces and civil administration from Ladakh and Kargil. Elections for first Constitutional Assembly for Gilgit Baltistan and Ladakh should be held immediately, he added.
