Gilgit: The Karakoram International University (KIU) has been closed for the last one week after attack on a teacher by a students group belonging to a religious organization.
A Students’ body has expressed serious concern over the action against the culprits and demanded to open the varsity as soon as possible.
In a statement, the leaders of Talba Mahaz said that KIU management was responsible for what happened in the campus. The management tries to save its skin by shutting the campus instead of taking actions against the culprits who are still at large.
KIU was closed for indefinite perion on last Monday after attack on a teacher by a group of students belonging to a religious group.
The teacher, Dr Shah Nawas, was injured in as attack on his office by unknown persons on Friday. Police registered FIR against nine students belonging to religious organization.
Accordig to a press realease issued by the KIU information cell, the cersity vice-chancellor took the decision on recommendations of a committee constituted to investigate the incident.
The committee suggested closure of the university for an indefinite period in the view of the secirty concers fot teavhers and other employees. However, the release said the carsity’s Skardu campus would remain open.
Gilgit Baltistan inspector General of Police, Zaffar Iqbal Awan, said the no one would be allowed to disturb the peaceful environment of the university. He said exemplary punishment would be meted out to the cupprits involved inth attack on teacher.
According to a press release, the GB police chief said full security would be provided to the KIU teachers and management.
