Traffic to resume on KKH tomorrow: GB government

GILGIT: KKH will be reopened for general traffic from Sunday as per the security clearance granted by commissioner of Hazara Divisio, an statement of GB government has disclosed on Saturday.

“We have received the security clearance from commissioner Hazara Division to allow the traffic on KKH along Kohistan and Hazara region”, the statement, issued by the spokesman of GB government has said. KKH was closed on August 16 following a brutal sectarian killing of 25 Shia muslims by dragging them out of the passenger buses at Luluser of Kohistan.

“The traffic will cross Hazara division and Kohistan in convoys between 8 am to 5 pm”, “DCO Kohistan will be responsible to ensure law and order situation at KKH in Kohistan and Hazara Division”, the statement said.

Two shot dead in Baseen

Meanwhile, 2 people were shot dead in Basin by unidentified gunmen, this afternoon. One of the deceased was identified as Riaz Ali who received multiple bullet wounds in his chest and neck, local sources said. The assailants opened fire from a close range and fled the scene, killing Riaz Ali on the spot and injuring another, who succumbed to his injuries in DHQ hospital.


Security has been red alert in the city since the attack on passenger buses in Kohistan, followed by the firing incidents in Gilgit. However, police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in Baseen area after the incident.
