DIAMER: Elders of Diamar district have announced to launch a protest movement against delay in payments of compensation to the owners whose lands are likely to be acquired for the construction of Diamar Bhsha dam.
According to details a jirga of local elders was held in district headquarters Chilas, attended by hundreds of people affected by proposed Diamer Bhasha dam. The jirga decided to block Karakuram Highway from 29th March against the hostile attitude of WAPDA.
Addressing to the gathering elders said “people of Diamar are ready to render scarifies of their ancestral lands and property but authorities are using delaying tactics for payment of compensation. This attitude is creating unrest among the people”, adding that the people would not accept any discrimination.
He demanded of the government to fulfill all its promises made during negotiations few months ago.
