Naib Tehsildar shot dead in Gilgit

GILGIT: Naib Tehsildar Muhammad Akbar Khan was shot dead while two other government officials received bullet injuries here in Baseen, locality of the city, on Monday.


According to details, unidentified men opened fire at the vehicle boarded by Akbar Khan who was accompanied by other officials including Auditor AGPR Haji Samad Khan, Junior Auditor Haibat Ali and Bulbul Jan Patwari.

According to information, they were going to Gilgit from Shoki when the unidentified men fired at the vehicle at Baseen area.

In the incident, the Tehsildar Akbar Khan was killed and the Auditor Samad and Junior Auditor Haibat were injured while the Patwari Bulbul Jan miraculously escaped.

Police, when informed, reached the spot of the incident and besieged the area while the injured were rushed to District Headquarter Hospital Gilgit for preliminary medical treatment and they were reportedly out of danger.

Fear gripped the city following the incident which was considered to be as targeted sectarian killing.

The government authorities appealed the people to remain calm.

Meanwhile, Raziuddin Razwi, member of legislative assembly blamed in a press conference that JUI(F) chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman was playing key role to create unrest in Gilgit Baltiatan.
