Governor of Gilgit Baltistan might be from Punjab or Sindh; Mehdi Shah

Lahore, January 03: Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah backs out of his stance over the appointment of a native governor for Gilgit Baltistan.

Speaking to a press conference here, he said “there might be any honourable woman from Punjab or Sindh to be appointed as governor of Gilgit Baltistan”. Earlier he had said that a list of native persons including Sher Jahan Mir was presented to President Asif Ali Zardari for approval. But within a week, the central leadership has handing him over a quite different list which included the names of Faryal Talpur, Naheed Khan, Bushra Aitezaz, Federal Minister Samina Khalid Gharkhi and Sheri Rehman.

There are speculations that President Zardari has finalized Faryal Talpur, his sister as the Governor of Gilgit Baltistan. While Naheed Khan, Bushra Aitezaz, Sheri Rehaman are unlikely to accept the post due to the deep rooted differences with the Zardari camp.
