PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) announced the names of party candidate for four constituencies of Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA) elections.
ANP provincial spokesman, Arbab Tahir while speaking to a press conference here said that the ANP has started active election campaign and chalked out a plan for visits of NWFP chief minister, provincial ministers and party leaders to the area.
The names of candidates who got ANP tickets include Aurangzaib Advocate from LA-2, Gilgit-2, advocate Yawar Abbas from LA-3, Gilgit-3, Ashiqullah from LA-15, Diamer-1 and Ali Ahmad from LA-14, Astor-2. All four candidates would have lantern as the election symbol. “.
Arbab Tahir said, NWFP chief minister and Afzal Khan Lala, the party stalwart from Swat, have planned to join the election campaign on 8th and 9th of the next month. Gilgit had a considerable number of Pakhtun population and the party had arranged the meetings on their request, he added.
Talking to a leading newspaper, Aurangzeb, advocate, the candidate from LA-2, Gilgit-2, said a considerable number of Pakhtuns were living in the area and most of them were from the business community, but no political party had ever talked about their rights.
The Pakistan People’s Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid and others have also fielded candidates. A total of 290 candidates would contest for 24 seats of Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly.
